A successful art and photography exhibition took place in Ashington last week (26-28 September).
The well-attended exhibition showcased Ashington talent and featured work by the Ashington Art Group, Ashington Camera Club and The Pitmatic Group. Volunteers from the organisations were on hand to discuss their work as well as providing information on their respective activities.
The exhibition focused on Ashington as well as containing other interesting images, showcasing the wide breadth of artistic talent in the town. The Exhibition took place in Unit 1 on Wansbeck Square over the three days.
Val Brewis of the Ashington Art Group said ‘It was a delight to work alongside the Camera Club, Pitmatic Group and Ashington Town Council and we hope we can work together in the future to promote the arts in the town’. Mr Roy Smith, of Ashington Camera Club, adds ‘I would like to say thank you to all involved for organising the exhibition and a special thank you to Cllrs. Marjorie Chambers and Avril Chisholm for providing refreshments throughout the event’. Mr Iain Bolton from the Pitmatics adds 'We really enjoyed providing a second exhibition of work in our home town, bringing our own style of art and photography to the event'.
Cllr. Lawrence Henderson, Civic Head of Ashington, attended the exhibition, and said ‘Ashington has a fantastic heritage of arts, photography and music which includes the world renowned Pitmen Painters which are displayed at Woodhorn Museum. It was good to see people coming along to view the art and photography on show and we do celebrate the fact that we have a lot of creative talent in our town’.
